Crunchwrap- but make it burger

Ingredients:

Large, burrito style tortillas

1 lb ground beef

Cheese of choice (of course I went dairy free)

Lettuce

Tomato

Pickles

Mayo

Ketchup OR BBQ sauce

Salt and pepper

Instructions:

Start with making your burgers, I like mine 5 guys style, nothing mixed in just salt and pepper. Turn your stove on, the burgers will have enough fat so don’t worry about oiling the pain. As for size, I wanted them smaller so I could wrap the burrito, so think of the size of a smaller lemon. I chose to smash burger style mine, I used a spatula and my pineapple corer to do the smash part. Gotta improvise ya know. You want it nice and thin or as thin as you can get it with whatever tools you got. Continue through til you have all your burgers. Pro-tip: spray the back of your spatula with your cooking spray so it doesn’t stick to the ground beef as you go all Hulk on it.

As the burgers cook you can make your burger sauce. NOW in the video I did not make it the way I prefer as I learned moments before I was missing an ingredient. But that’s ok- you work with what you got. About 2tbsp mayo, 1-1.5 tbsp mustard and 1.5-2tbsp ketchup. I prefer BBQ sauce over ketchup in this sauce, but adding ketchup made it more like In and Out anyway. I also didn’t have relish, so I chopped up a small pickle and added a splash of the juice. That’s right y’all….I opt for this over straight up white vinegar any day. You get acidy from the mustard anyway so in this recipe something with a less harsh acid taste is better anyway. Add salt and pepper to taste, some paprika if you like that smoke (this is really only worth it if you use ketchup and not BBQ). Mix in well and let sit while your burgers cook. Go ahead and slice up the tomatoes and lettuce while you wait too.

Assembly time! I made three versions of this and thankfully by the third I had a good idea in place. Cheese on the bottom, sauce, burger, sauce, burger, even more sauce, lettuce, tomato and more cheese. (spray pan) wrap it up by folding in towards the middle, and heat that side first! This will help the edges seal in place. Putting cheese there is crucial too because as it melts it’ll help hold it together.

Boom.

Now for the Bloggy stuff:

This was actually inspired by a youtube channel I watch, Mythical Kitchen and Josh’s horribly creative mind. He did an In and Out style crunch wrap which looked good, but was a lot of work and I wasn’t making hash browns out of fries. SO I chose to simplify his brainchild with my own recipe.

I also got a request for a healthier crunch wrap, so this plus my youtube inspiration is my contribution.

Why did I not add in any binding agents to the meet? Well frankly, I didn’t wanna. If I am going to eat a beef burger patty- I want it to beef (say that like an angry Ron Swanson…you’re welcome). Plus with smash burgers, the crust of the pan will keep it all together. The additives really aren’t necessary, its a burger not a meat loaf. If you want to get crazy and do a mix of beef/bacon or beef/venison- do you boo. My meat grinder is in storage and all I had on hand was ground beef.

Whenever I find my meat grinder I’ll do a recipe with making your own, just gotta stop moving so much and having things in storage.

Anyway, let’s get into some of the modifications you can make to this:

Ways to make it even healthier:

Start by not adding breadcrumbs/eggs/milk/crap that goes in a meatloaf into your burger. Keep that bad boy pure, it’ll lower total calories too (ok ok, I am all done ranting about keeping a burger pure).

This meal is #healthified in terms that is low carb, lower sodium than getting a burger at a restaurant and its homemade. But it is still high in fat. What I did not showcase was I air friend some zucchini and ate that with this to get in some extra veggies.

In the very first one I made, I did only about 2tbsp of sauce and it was also so good. I just went overboard on the 3rd because, well I wanted to use up the sauce and just wanted to try it! Fat and proteins keep you full- and I was feeling this third one. I actually really only ate about ½ this and bites of the other while my boyfriends devoured the rest. So you can definitely cut back on the mayo based sauce, or just use a low calorie condiment of your choice.

Then- there is always the ever so boring option most of us have indulged in- lettuce wrap. Which is a great option and when I eat out one I typically opt for. But personally, if I am making a burger at home with my ingredients- no way am I lettuce wrapping a burger in the safety of my own kitchen.

The fun part of this though and you can really custom this anyway you add. Cook down some onions, add bacon, add fried onion straws. This is adaptable to any type of burger you enjoy in a yummy, warmed up tortilla that acts as a cocoon for all your fillings.
